For
the longest time, I felt too busy to
exercise. I worked ten-hour
days and came home and worked on my book and web site.
Then I took a business trip near a ski resort, so I stayed an extra
day to hit the slopes. Unfortunately,
I caught an edge and took a nasty fall down the mountain, tearing
ligaments in my knee.
My
injury required surgery. Afterward,
I had a long recovery period that required hours of physical therapy.
If I didn't do the prescribed exercises, I wouldn’t be able to
walk without pain or a noticeable limp.
Worse, I wouldn’t regain the strength needed to maintain my
outdoor hobbies. I love to
SCUBA dive and I wanted to ski again.
Funny
how something I thought I did not have time for now became a priority.
I made the time to exercise!
Focusing
on the goal changed everything around. Steven Covey suggests,
instead of prioritizing your schedule, schedule your priorities.
Following this advice, I blocked out time for my workout. Instead of
seeing if there was time left to fit it in, I booked it into my calendar
and then scheduled less important tasks around it.
The
result?
I
now stick to my workouts.
I
not only feel better, but the regular exercise has given me even more
energy to find time for those other things.
Why
Not give this a try and see if the same technique will work for you.
Focus on what is really important to you in your life and see what
develops!
